Screwfix have got a limited edition Bosch Professional SDS drill at a great price. The Bosch GBH 2400 is quite simply excellent value for a proven 2 kg hammer drill. You may not see it in the current Bosch catalogue – that’s because it’s a promotional line, available to certain retailers like Screwfix. We spoke to the Bosch technical team who confirmed that it is essentially the same tool as the GBH 2-26DRE

Just £99.99 was £149.99

Choose the 110V Bosch GBH 2400 model(for trade/sitework)

or the 240V model (residential work and DIY use)

…FREE NEXT DAY DELIVERY if you order by 6pm

Here’s 5 reasons why we like the Bosch GBH 2400 SDS hammer drill

1. It’s got bags of power – 2.7 joules of impact energy from a robust 720W motor – that puts it right up there with the more expensive GBH 2-26 DRE and DFR models

2. it’s a Bosch Professional tool so you get the standard no quibble 3 year warranty (simply register online after your purchase).

3. It’s a 3 mode drill, so as well as rotary drilling and hammer drilling you get a chiselling mode that can tackle chasing, chiselling and chipping

4. The drill has a mechanical safety clutch to protect you if it gets jammed

5. It’s built to last. The Bosch GBH 2400 features tough all metal gearing and replaceable carbon brushes which you can renew rather than having to buy a new drill

The Bosch GBH 2400 ticks all the boxes…especially the price. For an SDS drill of this weight and power you’ll typically be looking at the £150 mark. Similar SDS drills at this price include the DeWalt D25113K and the Makita HR2470

A little more detail…

The Bosch GBH 2400 tackles most building materials with ease. It allows you to drill 24mm diameter holes in masonry, 30mm in wood, and 13mm in steel.

(PLEASE NOTE: the drilling capacity on the Screwfix site describes the capacity in masonry as 26mm but the maufacturer specification is actually 24mm.)

The size of the drill is fairly standard a 377mm in length. At 2.7kg it’s on the heavier side for this category of SDS Plus drill but for that little extra weight you get lots of power in return.

The Bosch GBH 2400 comes with all the standard features you’d expect for a 2kg corded SDS drill. A Single-Speed Variable & Reverse action for safely removing your drill bit when it gets stuck tightly in brickwork or masonry. There’s also protection for you when if the drill bit suddenly gets jammed ¬– a Mechanical Safety Clutch that stops the drill from spinning and wrenching your arm if there’s a sudden increase in torque.

Also worth mentioning are the Lock-Off Switch and Soft-Grip Handle?for ease of use and convenience.

As with many Screwfix offers, stocks are limited so it’s worth getting in there early.

Choose the 110V Bosch GBH 2400 model (for trade/sitework) or the 240V model (residential work and DIY use)

Don’t forget… NEXT DAY DELIVERY and 3 YEAR BOSCH MANUFACTURER’S WARRANTY

Here’s what you get for your money…

This is a classic 2kg SDS drill with a hefty 780 watt motor, 3 modes of operation which includes rotary drilling, hammer drilling and chieselling (thanks to the roto-stop feature). The drilling power is 2.7 Joules of impact energy which is up there with some of the more expensive corded Bosch SDS drills. This allows you to drill diameter 24mm holes into concrete and 32mm holes into wood.

Some nice extras for the professional user too

When you’re pushing hard to get a job finished you sometimes put more pressure on your drill than is advisable – with this Makita HR2450 there’s a built-in torque limiter that stop bit rotation when it hits unexpectedly tough materials stopping the drill from kicking back and giving your should a nasty wallop.

It’s a nice solid machine (although pretty lightweight a 2.4kg) and you’ll like the chunky positive stop mode selector that stops the drill accidentally slipping into a different mode (it’s also easy to use when wearing work gloves – another bonus)

You can see the full spec for the Makita HR2450 here or simply buy one now while stocks last.

There’s up to £100 off these cordless Erbauer SDS Drills – so what’s our verdict?

Currently Screwfix are offering £50 off the Lithium-Ion powered Erbauer 18V cordless SDS drill for £199 and the Erbauer 24V SDS drill for £149. Unsurprisingly they’ve been attracting a lot of attention, but we’ve also had plenty of questions about the quality of these drills.

Let’s start with the 18V Erbauer cordless SDS drill

The good things about the 18V Erbauer are that it’s a 3 mode SDS, so it’s ok for a bit of light chiselling; it’s got an impressive level of power at 2 joules of impact energy and best of all it runs off Lithium-Ion batteries (you get 2 x2.6Ah of these in the package). Compared to the 18V DeWalt, Makita and Bosch SDS drills it’s at least £100 cheaper and matches all of them for specification (only the 18V Makita outstrips it with its amazing 22 minute recharging time). See our 18 Volt SDS drill reviews to find out more. The big unknown about the 18 Volt Erbauer SDS drill is its track record being a relatively new brand (see our thoughts on this below). You can buy the 18V cordless Erbauer SDS drill at Screwfix on offer now.

…and the 24V Erbauer cordless SDS drill?

Like most of the 24 Volt cordless SDS drills out there, the 24V Erbauer runs off NiCad batteries which are generally heavier than Li-Ion and have a shorter lifespan. Like the 18V Erbauer its a 3 mode SDS drill (rotary hammer, hammer drilling, roto stop for chiselling) but it’s marginally less powerful at 1.7 Joules of impact energy. It comes will some decent features, replaceable carbon brushes, 1 hour charger and 2×2.0Ah batteries. On balance, the 18V Erbauer is a better package but if you’re set on a 24 volt SDS drill you might want to consider the Bosch 24V cordless. You can buy the 24V cordless Erbauer SDS drill at Screwfix now.

So, are Erbauer SDS drills any good?

As you may know, Erbauer is a brand name marketed by Screwfix, essentially an ‘own brand’ product. Price-wise, Erbauer SDS drills are at least £50 cheaper than an eqivalent Makita, Bosch or DeWalt drill. But of course, with power tools, the rule of thumb is generally, ‘you get what you pay for’, so what’s our position?

The first thing to say is that, overall, we’ve heard good things about Erbauer tools. 80% positive, based on a range of tradesmen’s opinions. However, the people we’ve had feedback from are realistic about their purchase. Most recognise that a cheaper tool with a 2 year warranty may not have the same longevity as one that costs twice as much.

To give you the most balanced view here’s what we see as the pluses and negatives of buying an Erbauer SDS drill.

The good points…

1. Erbauer SDS drills have been around for 5 years+ now, enough to establish a track record

2. Screwfix are generally very good in exchanging faulty drills n

3. You’ll get an automatic 2 year warranty – just pop to Screwfix to get a replacement, no need to send it off

4. It’s a 3 mode drill, allowing you do perform light chiselling

5. If it gets nicked or falls off some scaffolding, you’re only down £150.

Worth thinking about…

1. You can’t guarantee that the Erbauer SDS drill are supported in the same way as, say a Bosch, with spares available if you need them

2. If you’ve already got batteries compatible with another brand, they’re no good with an Erbauer

3. The Bosch, Makita and DeWalt 24V SDS Drills have a proven heritage and still sell well despite the arrival of Li-ion drills

So, that’s our view on the Erbauer 24V cordless SDS drill. You can check it out at Screwfix now.

A couple of years ago, the GBH36V-LICP broke new ground with the combination of light, compact design and Lithium-Ion driven power. At the time, it came with a hefty £500+ price tag. Thankfully, it’s now available for £299 at Screwfix, so if you’re looking for an aggressive, lightweight hammer drill, it’s the obvious choice.

…it’s the little brother of Bosch’s 36 volt range

If you’ve been Googling for ’36 volt Bosch SDS drills’, you’ll have noticed that there’s more than one. The GBH36V-LICP is the more compact version, weighing 2.9kg and under 300mm. The standard 36V Bosch SDS drill, the GBH36V-LI – is 367,0 mm in length and 4.3kgs. By comparison Makita’s 36V SDS is 4.5kg, and the DeWalt DC234KL is 3.8kg.

This makes it ideal for electricians, joiners – anyone who’s up and down ladders, reaching under units, crouching and drilling holes in masonry.

It’s worth pointing out that this is a 2 mode drill – so it doesn’t offer a chiselling function – but to honest if you’re looking for that feature you’ll need a cordless SDS at the heavier end of the scale.

The Lithium-Ion batteries keep the weight down without stripping away the power. For such a neat, compact design the GBH36VLI-CP packs a hefty punch with a max impact energy of 1.7 joules. This outperforms the heavier, older 24V Bosch SDS drill (1.3 joules) and gives you the capacity to drill 100 holes in a single battery charge.

For £299 you get two 1.3Ah Lithium-Ion batteries that charge in approx. 30 minutes. So as long as you keep one battery on charge, you should have a continuous source of power. The GBH36VLI-CP does comes with the more dense 2.0Ah Li-ion batteries but you’ll pay at least £50 more for this.

So in summary…

this is a cracking deal if you want a highly manoeuvrable 36 Volt SDS drill. As with all Bosch Blue (trade) drills, it comes with a 3 year warranty when you register it online – so you know your investment is protected. Finally, if you’ve never seen one up close, it’s a great looking tool that will get you itching to start drilling holes

We’ve seen compact cordless SDS drills before, but the Bosch GBH 18V-LiCP is a very high big step for Bosch, the innovator of the ‘Special Direct System’ (SDS). By packing 18 volts of power into a drilll that’s just 278mm long and 202mm high, Bosch have created a powerful hammer drill that you can operate one handed, whilst crouching under sinks, reaching behind boilers and stretching in loft spaces.

Light and compact…but with plenty of power

The agile, compact design delivers 1.0 joules of impact energy (compared to the 1.7J of the standard Bosch 18V cordless SDS drill) However it still packs some serious drilling power – the pneumatic hammer mechanism, is capable of sinking 6-10 diameter mm holes in concrete up to 18mm. One one charge it can drill up to 115 screwholes in standard concrete from just one charge of its Lithium-Ion batteries – all thanks to the precisely engineered Bosch EC motor.

New offer – Hitachi lithium-ion cordless SDS drill for £249

Cordless SDS drills keep getting smaller and more powerful – and the prices keep shrinking too.

You can save £50 off the Hitachi DH18DL/JL – a 2 mode 18 volt cordless SDS drill with 2 powerful 3.0 Ah batteries – just £250 whilst on offer price.

As you can see from our round up of 18V SDS drill reviews we’re think Hitachi drills compare well in specification to the big name Bosch, Metabo and DeWalt drills.

A versatile lithium-ion drill that’s perfect for electricians, plumber and joiners

With 2 high quality batteries (recharging in 45 minutes) you can be confident that you’ll always have a spare, even if you’re working under lots of pressure.

Hitachi claim that it’s the fastest drill in its class and this is certainly supported by the spec. It offers 2 mode drilling (so no rotostop for chiseling) and can pop 16mm holes into masonry for screws and fixings. If you’re climbing around on-site or in peoples lofts you’ll appreciate the bullt-in LED work light and belt-hook.

For Hitachi powertool fans, you also have the benefit of clip-on batteries that are compatible with other Hitachi tools.

Makita HR2470 + 3 packs of SDS Drill bits + chisel Now £144.97

It’s not surprising that it’s such a popular drill. Makita is a proven brand and there aren’t that many options at this price which tick all the boxes for a professional grade SDS drill.

On hammer drilling mode it will comfortably sink 24mm diameter holes in concrete and with 2 other modes, it can take care of standard drilling jobs in wood and metal and also chisel out light masonry for laying electrics or pipework.

With replaceable carbon brushes and all metal gearing, it has that dependable built-to-last feel that you get with a Makita, and at 2.7kg it packs a hefty punch.

Prices tend to fluctuate – it generally hovers around the £140-50 mark and is now at £144.97 at one of the leading retailers. Pick one up today and you won’t be disappointed.

Yes! One of our favourite 24 volt SDS drills is now a mere £265 inc VAT

Yes! One of our favourite cordless SDS drills has seriously dropped down in price.

You can pick up a Hitachi Dh24Dva 24v for just £265.94 at Tooled Up for a limited time. It’s a very smart looking NiCAD based drill, that’s nicely balanced and part of a family of cordless drills with a real pedigree.

Better than the Bosch?

On our homepage you’ll also see a great deal on the classic Bosch 24V SDS drill. If you’re a Bosch fan you might instinctively go for the German drill but if you’re going to choose on specification, the Hitachi is difficult to beat.

For starters, it delivers a mighty 2.8 joules of impact energy. More than any other 24 volt sds drill out there. Compare this with the modest 1.3 joules of the Bosch 24V and there’s clearly only one winner.

Two 2.0Ah batteries – included with the package

The Bosch drill does have the newer NiMH type of battery but with two 2.0Ah NiCAD powered batteries chargeable in 50 minutes the HItachi will have enough juice for all but the busiest of trade users (it also has a handy Save Power Mode, allowing you to conserve the charge for when you need it most).

All in all it has a great spec and it’s definitely worth checking out. Buy the Hitachi Dh24Dva 24v Cordless SDS Plus Hammer Drill for just £265.94 inc VAT with NEXT DAY DELIVERY
