Makita SDS drill HR2450 110V
This is a step up from Makita’s entry level HR1830 model and offers truly excellent value for a hard working professional grade SDS drill. With 3 drilling modes and a 780W motor it hammers away at 4,500bpm tackling tough masonry drilling, steel and all types of wood. With a max impact energy of 2.7j it also works well in chiselling mode, giving you a very versatile tool. Invest in a non-SDS chuck and you won’t need to take another drill onto the job. The Makita HR2450 SDS Drill: full specification
Drilling power
This is a solidly built, no nonsense hammer drill for the trade. It can drill 24mm diameter holes into masonry and concrete , 13mm holes in metal, and 32mm into wood. The motor delivers an output of 780 watts with an impact energy of 2.7 Joules with a high speed of 0 – 1,100 RPM and 0 – 4,500 blows per minute for tackling the toughest jobs
What does it weigh?
No worries here – it’s just 2.4kg, around average for a 2KG corded SDS drill and the ergonomic design and swivelling side-handle make it a very comfortable drill to use.
What chuck type does it have?
The standard SDS Plus chuck.
Number of drilling modes
Three. This means for under £100 you get a drill that performs standard rotary drilling, hammer drilling and chipping and chiselling – making it a good drill for joiners, electricans and plumbers.
Other stand out features:
- The integrated torque limiter stops the bit from continuing to rotate if it hits reinforced concrete or metal, avoiding kickback and accidents
- The positive stop mode selector stops the drill changing mode in mid-operation (you’ll find many rival drills don’t have positive stops. making them tricky to change function – especially if you’ve got work gloves on)
- Makita have also introduced a postive bit lock so that the drill bit doesn’t loosen during use
- Nice chunky trigger switch and 360° swivelling side-handle for extra comfort
- Recessed lock-on button allows you to set the drill for continuous use
- High quality ball bearing construction for extended tool life
- Air ventillation holes to keep the motor cool whilst stopping dirt and dust from entering the tool’s casing.
