It’s no surprise that SDS drills are popular with electricians. They’re ideal for drilling large diameter holes through brickwork for laying cabling or pipework.
This Makita HR2230 2kg SDS Plus drill comes as a tailor-made kit for an electrician, including a Keyless chuck & adaptor and 96 piece electrician’s kit.
The drill itself is a strong performer, capable of boring 22mm holes into concrete, 13mm into steel and 32mm into wood. It has a impact of energy of 2.3 joules and a rapid drilling rate of 0-1050rpm with 0-4050bpm.
The free electrician’s kit includes a range of drill bits and the free SDS chuck adaptor means that you can quickly convert this drill to use your non-SDS bits.
The drill package also includes depth rod, side handle and carry case
Any downsides? Only that it has no roto-stop function so it’s you can’t use if for chiseling or chipping. That aside it’s a great value package – it could be the only drill you’ll ever need in your toolbag.
