A top Makita SDS drill for under £100
It’s amazing what you can get for under £100 nowadays…
A couple of years ago you wouldn’t have got much change out of £150 for a trade quality SDS drill from Makita, Bosch or DeWalt. But as technology has progressed, prices have come down. So it’s great to see the Makita HR2450 now at a just £99.95
Here’s what you get for your money…
This is a classic 2kg SDS drill with a hefty 780 watt motor, 3 modes of operation which includes rotary drilling, hammer drilling and chieselling (thanks to the roto-stop feature). The drilling power is 2.7 Joules of impact energy which is up there with some of the more expensive corded Bosch SDS drills. This allows you to drill diameter 24mm holes into concrete and 32mm holes into wood.
Some nice extras for the professional user too
When you’re pushing hard to get a job finished you sometimes put more pressure on your drill than is advisable – with this Makita HR2450 there’s a built-in torque limiter that stop bit rotation when it hits unexpectedly tough materials stopping the drill from kicking back and giving your should a nasty wallop.
It’s a nice solid machine (although pretty lightweight a 2.4kg) and you’ll like the chunky positive stop mode selector that stops the drill accidentally slipping into a different mode (it’s also easy to use when wearing work gloves – another bonus)
